Owning a hotel in Italy sounds like the perfect way to combine business and pleasure. Even in a credit crunch people still go on holiday and when on holiday they still need somewhere to stay. It is a business which has a number of markets – business travellers, conference attendees and wedding guests, overseas tourists and the Italian holiday makers too - although remember that Italians tend to take their holidays at the same time of year, with August being the peak.

Finding a Commercialista

If you are going to start any kind of business in Italy or work as a freelance or entrepreneur, you will need to find a good accountant. It is worth mentioning that you can handle your tax affairs yourself with free guidance from a ‘tutor’ at your local agenzia delle entrate (tax office) but unless you are confident, speak good Italian and are good with numbers and changing tax laws, it is probably best to let the professionals deal with it.

Its population drinks more wine per head than any other country (an average of 59 litres) and it is the world’s biggest wine maker, producing 4.7 billion litres of wine in 2008.
